Jake at School

I wanted to write to everyone about Jake and how and what he does in school. He goes to Lighthouse Daycare and Learning Center here in Hugo. It has been wonderful. I am a firm believer in daycare of some sort, even if I was a stay at home mom. Children have a social order, just as adults do. In daycare Jake has learned to respect adults and children. He has learned that no matter the color of our skin we are all the same. He is independent and confident. He is learning to share and respect the boundaries of others. He abides by rules and a schedule. Jake listens at home as well but I think it is important that the rules come from other places as well.

He is involved in so many activities! He gets to play with things and do things I would never think of to do at home. Best of all he is exposed to ALL kinds of germs. This is important people! They get sick all the time in the first few years of being exposed to other children. This affords them the opportunity to be sick without missing important school hours. My dilemma, living in the area, was the lack of preschools. In Oklahoma (I'm sure it's close to the same everywhere), your child has certain requirements they need to meet to enter kindergarten. I had to choose a daycare that worked on these things. This one is wonderful.

Jake has a class of about 8 kids give or take a few depending on the day of the week. They do a lesson plan everyday. They has a designated color, number, letter and song each month. The sing read stories, count, color, and tons of other stuff I couldn't name. The most impressive part is they love it! Young kids are so much smarter then we give them credit for.

To date Jake knows his first and last name and the first and last name of most in his family. He knows 10 colors, can count to 20, spell his name, the days of the week, the months of the year, about 20 songs, his shapes, he is fully potty trained, and he can recognize hot, cold, warn, wet, dry, sunny, bright, windy, cold, night, dark... all the adjectives used to describe things.

I do not write these things to prove his intelligence only to defend and encourage preschool or daycare of some sort. These teachers do not, nor do they want to , take over the job of parenting, but they are a valuable asset to a child's mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

The school that Jake goes to has done some really cool things. Most recently they had Spiderman come and do magic and sing songs and teach the kids about strangers. This month is safety month. They are also doing a Trikeathon to raise money to St. Jude Research foundation. I love it!

Jake gets to spend a lot of time playing outside with all his friends on really cool equipment! Do you know that at 2 years old the girls are already chasing the boys? It's pretty funny to watch.
We are changing daycare when we move and this has been a stressful thing for me. We will miss Lighthouse and all they have done for us. Thank you Lighthouse!!!!

Warm Days!

Now that the days have begun to warm up quite nicely around here we are able to enjoy a little bit of time outside. Jake loves being outside and winter weather was getting the best of him. In Oklahom it is a fine balence and a short period of time between cold and way too hot and humid. So we are enjoying our time outside while we can.

Jake really isn't very good at riding his tricycle yet. I think it's because he has a 4-wheeler that is battery powered and he rides that a little more. We are going to work on this in the up coming months.

Yeah it's warm enough to eat popcicles outside now! No more sticky floors!

Blowing bubbles in the front yard. Jake has recently mastered this without spilling the bottle of bubbles everywhere! I am not allowed to hold the bottle, "Me do it!" , holds the bottle...

As I went to post this blog entry I saw that this would be my 100th post! That means 100 updates in 2 years. Everybody has been kept well informed! Anyway it's time to do an update on Jake and I so here it goes...

Jake is SOOOO 2! he has become very independent. Everything is "me do it!". He wants to put on his clothes, he wants to buckle his car seat belts, he wants to potty by himself I have to stand at the doorway. "Me do it, mama!". He has an opinion about everything and it's usually the opposite of mine. He throws temper tantrums like nobody else. I read on the blogs of my friends with kids the same age and they tend to say "an occasional tantrum". I long for "occasional" this is almost a daily event for our household. I have tried timeout, spanking, and sending him to his room. The thing that seems to work best is a stare down. It's like animals you look them in the eye and the dominant one will come out victorious!

I have a good friend named Debbie and she has a son that she swears was just like Jake. Her take on this situation is that they have above average intelligence which causes them to get easily frustrated. He son is now 10 (I think) and she swears it gets better! Now I would love to believe that this is the case, what mother wouldn't want an intelligent child? But I think I'm paying for his fathers raising as his dads mom tells me they are very similar.

Jake does still love sports and the outdoors. Recently he was given a pair of baseball shoes that are way too big for him. He wears these shoes all over the house saying that daddy (Kenny) is going to take him to play baseball when he gets big. Now Joe would love to do this with him, but I think he will have the soccer duty, as Jake is a fan of every sport.

He is currently going through a very clinging stage. He is always on my hip if we are in the house or at someone else's house. If anyone asks him for a kiss or hug, he turns around and gives it to me instead. He sleeps in his big boy bed now. I tried this once and it was horrible, but I tried it again and he has gotten out of bed only one time! He won't even get out in the morning, he just sits there and calls me. I'm very happy about this because of our upcoming move.

Speaking of the move I have only 13 more days of school and this includes weekends and other days off!!!!!! I am so happy!!!! I have managed to stay on the Deans list, I'm not sure how?! But I am getting nervous about NCLEX as I need to pass since I have already been given a job as an RN starting June 2 (actually I'll be a GN until I pass boards). Kenny and I go to Cancun for Kari's wedding in less then one month (today officially I can say that). And Kenny will be home on May 16th, I haven't seen him since Christmas! Hopefully with a ring in hand. Last night he asked me what type of metal I wanted my ring to be made of (good sign?). I will keep an update on this as well.

Sorry for the looong post but I had some stuff to say!
